Gospel words from The Rev. Dr. Norman Nagel
“The generation that was delivered out of Egypt all died in the wilderness, though the Lord gave them bread from heaven. Repeatedly in John, Jesus fulfills and bursts what is told us in the Old Testament. Jesus is bread from heaven of which a man may eat and not die. Here death is ultimate death and its counterpart is ultimate life. Jesus said, “I am the living Bread” (John 6.51), What could be a more “I am” statement of life? But there is more. There is life through and beyond the furthest reach of death. Death can reach no further than Calvary. That there was death in Calvary is shown by the fact that flesh and blood are spoken of separately. But they are Jesus’ flesh and blood, so there is life with them beyond the furthest reacth of death—life indestructible, life forever.” (Selected Sermons of Norman Nagel 56).

I would advise anyone who wants to read (hear on DVD) some fine (I only use fine since Dr. Nagel has never been "aflare" -- puffed up) sermons to check CPH and other sources.
Dr. Nagel is one of the finest men I have met. He was gifted by God to put his brain in gear before opening his mouth or writing. His influence on generations of pastors has been a true blessing to His church.
Reviewing sermons again as well as listening to archived Nagel at issuesetc.org under archived programs (see "listen on-demand") or use the search function at that site searching "Nagel" to get a number of old and recent programs (interviewed at care facility status post stroke) to select from. There have been days when the "old evil foe" would drag me down. Listening or reading his sermons or commentary that speaks to Christ alone helps banish the "foe's" influence. I recently e-mailed to his address monitored by his wife to thank him once again for his life in Christ and influence on many of us. I hope that others remember to do the same.
